WHY MINDFULNESS AT WORK?

Of the many benefits of mindfulness, a sort of “undistractability” is probably one of the more important ones. Our modern workplaces (and lives) are basically designed to distract us: a never ending flow of information through different digital channels, constant calls for our attention with every ‘bing’ and red notification dot that throw us out of a productive flow . The urgency to respond immediately creates a constant state of stress. The speed and complexity of our working environments can not only lower productivity but also induce a sense of disconnection, overwhelm and anxiety

Practicing mindfulness trains our attention. It works like a daily exercise for the brain that is able to change neurological structure. It helps us focus, filter information and prioritize tasks better in order to work in a calmer way making better use of all our natural strength and abilities.

Mindfulness also helps to approach conflicts and difficult conversations with some measure of equanimity, an open mind and a kinder attitude to ourselves and others.

WHY COMPASSION AT WORK?

While the word compassion might sound a bit fluffy or not related to a typical performance and result-driven working environment, a growing body of academic research on compassion shows its importance for the workplace of the future.

Organizations that actively integrate compassion into their working culture generate greater job satisfaction, lower stress levels and better health for their employees. An important factor in times of the so called “war for talents” is that compassion also relates to higher loyalty and employee dedication. Leaders who show compassionate behavior – especially in times of crisis – are better able to navigate challenging times and motivate their team.
